Incorporating: Stanley, Blairgowrie, Glenshee, Braemar, Balmoral, Ballater, Finzean, Fettercairn, and Kirriemuir.
This route heads north into the Cairngorm Mountains; through the Glenshee Ski Area and on to Braemar and Ballater before returning south a few miles inland of the busy A90. You'll begin with a couple of miles on the A9 dual carriageway but leave before you become bored with it, at Luncarty and proceed along quiet roads through farmland and forestry on your way to Blairgowrie; the berry capital. Strawberries and Raspberries; that's what's under all the plastic. Don't miss the turn for the Ski Centre and Braemar as you leave the town. Pass Bridge of Cally and you begin your climb into the mountains, past Spittal of Glenshee and the Ski area before descending into Braemar. You'll continue to follow the River Dee eastwards past the Queen's residence at Balmoral to Ballater where you'll cross the river to the quieter south road. Past Finzean you'll turn south towards Fettercairn with great views to the sea. You'll follow the edge of the hills through Kirriemuir and back to Blairgowrie. After retracing a few miles that you covered earlier you'll take a different route back to Perth. |
