Before the M90 was opened, the road through Glenfarg was the dreaded bottleneck on the main arterial road north-south. You’d be invariably stuck behind heavy lorries crawling up the steep gradients and around blind corners with no opportunity to overtake. Now, however, with all the heavy traffic on the motorway, this series of bends are there to be enjoyed.
As a regular on the road in those far off days, it was a relief to find that there was an alternative route between Bridge of Earn and Glenfarg village which lies south of the most tortuous section of bends. Sign-posted “the Wicks o’ Baiglie it largely follows the line of the motorway and forms your return route. You’ll weave over and under the motorway as you cross the Ochil Hills. Stop and take in the views.
You’ll depart Perth on “The Old Edinburgh Road” and pass through Bridge of Earn on your way to the village of Glenfarg. Turn around there and take the turn-off for Wicks o’ Baiglie returning again through Bridge of Earn and on to Perth.
