Incorporating: Loch Earn, Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel, with views to Ben Vorlich, Ben Lawers and Schiehallion.
You'll begin on the "back road" to Crieff through rolling farmland with views to the hills. Through Comrie on the A85 to St. Fillans where you have a choice of continuing on the A85 or taking the single-track along the south shore to Lochearnhead. From there you'll head north to Killin and follow Loch Tay until you turn off for the Ben Lawers visitor centre and climb the dramatic single-track to Glen Lyon. (where the Post Office does lovely tea and fresh scones) Through Fortingall with its charming thatched cottages and ancient Yew tree and you turn towards Kinloch Rannoch. Take the road signed Schiehallion for the even more scenic short cut to Loch Rannoch. You can drive around the loch and even on to remote Rannoch station. Follow the river to Tummell Bridge and take the B846 down Glengoulandie and on to Kenmore at the north end of Loch Tay. A few hundred yards into the south Loch Tay road, take a left and a sudden switchback climb on to high moorland on your way to Glen Quaich and Amulree. Join the A822 and enjoy the Sma Glen before taking the Buchanty road back to Perth. |
