Incorporating: Buchanty, The Sma Glen, Glen Quaich single-track, Kenmore, Loch Tay and the south Loch Tay single-track, Ardeonaig, Killin, Ben Lawers single-track, Glen Lyon, Fortingall, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld and Stanley. This route heads east on quiet county lanes to join the A822 through the Sma Glen. Turn left at Amulree and follow the sigle-track up Glen Quaich before a switch-back climb up onto the high moors with great views back and ahead over to Ben Lawers and Schiehallion, before dropping down to Kenmore and Loch Tay. You can sit by the loch and have a snack at the Taymouth or visit the venerable Kenmore Hotel or try the Courtyard for food and gifts. The next section takes you past Fortingall then along lovely sheltered Glen Lyon (the Post Office at the top of Glen Lyon does great scones, tea and coffee) and around Ben Lawers with views over Loch Tay. Follow the Loch to Killin and take the south Loch Tay single-track back to Kenmore. Or if you've had enough single track for one day; turn left when you rejoin the road and loch after the Ben Lawers Visitor Centre. Back in Kenmore, this time you'll follow the River Tay as you aim for Aberfeldy and take the scenic A826 through Strathbraan to Dunkeld before returning to Perth by country lanes and a short stretch of dualled A9. |
